One of the Most Misunderstood Treatments in Aesthetics
The words chemical peel make many people nervous. The reality is that when performed correctly by a trained practitioner, a chemical peel is one of the most effective and well-established skin treatments available — and it is suitable for a wide range of skin types including the darker skin tones common across Pakistan.
What Is a Chemical Peel?
A chemical peel involves applying an acid solution to the skin to exfoliate the outer layers, stimulate cell renewal and reveal fresher, smoother skin underneath. The acids used are carefully formulated and controlled — this is not the same as harsh domestic products.
The most commonly used acids include glycolic acid, salicylic acid and lactic acid. Each targets different skin concerns at different depths.
What Can a Chemical Peel Treat?
Chemical peels are effective for a range of common skin concerns including:
- Uneven skin tone and pigmentation.
- Post-acne marks and scarring.
- Dullness and rough skin texture.
- Fine lines and early signs of ageing.
- Active acne and congestion.
- Sun damage.
Are Chemical Peels Safe for Pakistani Skin?
This is one of the most important questions to ask. Darker skin tones — including the South Asian skin tones common in Pakistan — require careful selection of peel type and concentration. Aggressive peels applied incorrectly on darker skin can cause post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation — meaning the skin darkens in response to the treatment.
At Monét, every peel is selected and applied based on a thorough skin assessment. We use peel types and concentrations that are appropriate for your specific skin tone, type and concern. When done correctly, chemical peels are safe and highly effective for Pakistani skin.
What to Expect During and After a Peel
During the treatment you may feel a mild tingling or warmth. This is normal. The solution is left on for a controlled period and then neutralised.
After the treatment, mild redness and sensitivity is common. Depending on the depth of the peel, some flaking or peeling of the skin may occur over the following few days. Sun protection after a chemical peel is essential — avoid direct sun exposure and apply SPF daily.
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
Mild peels with no downtime can be repeated monthly as part of a skin maintenance routine. For more targeted concerns such as pigmentation or acne scarring, a course of 3 to 6 sessions is typically recommended, spaced several weeks apart.
